Spring has sprung and summer is fast approaching!
As the weather becomes nicer and a greater amount of our time is spent being outside, naturally we start to implement more active body movement. The shift from winter dormancy to springtime movement is often our focus, but what about the movement that happens in our careers? Just like with physical activity, the more intentional we are with our career moves the better our outcomes will be.
One of the perks of owning a business I love is getting to focus on doing what I love, career coaching is one of those aspects for me. Guiding and mentoring professionals who have found their passion in the property management industry and want to make it a lifelong career is something I thrive upon. Finding that balance between excelling at the job you have while making sure you are doing your best to set yourself up for future opportunities can be challenging to navigate.
When growing your career you can no longer just sit idly at the same company for 10, 15 or 20 years. Well…actually you can, but you will likely not reach your career and financial aspirations in the timeline you want. There has been a shift to proactively taking your career success into your own hands.
What are YOU doing to move YOUR career path forward?
Here are a few guidelines to think about in meeting those career and financial goals:
What roles in property management do you shine at and enjoy the most? Take an inventory of your skill sets and what you like/dislike about your current position.
What does your promotion road map look like to get the position you are after? Look at what titles are above you at your company as well as others, and what possible positions might interest you in the future.
What skills do you need to learn to take those next steps and how are you going to access them? There are so many online education tools available to learn valuable upskilling, look at what you are passionate about and turn it into another asset for your growth.
What type of company culture fits best with you? We spend much of our time working, find a company that aligns with your professional goals. Both you and your employer will benefit from the right match.
Be open to new opportunities that challenge and grow you.
Be deliberate in the moves you are making professionally while still showing stability in your resume.
