This year is flying by already and we can’t believe April is here, spring is in full bloom at the farm!
We can all get so busy with everyday life that we forget to take a moment to think about our life and career goals. Do you ever stop and ponder about the possibility of a career move or where you would like to be long-term? Even if you are content in your current role, it never hurts to think about and be prepared for the future and have a plan. Career goals may be personal, but that does not mean you have to pursue them on your own–it is all about collaboration and networking! Reach out to mentors, colleagues, or a professional career strategist/coach. You may or may not know exactly where you want to be in five, ten, fifteen years … no matter what stage you are at in your career, it is never too early or too late to plant seeds for growth.
Achieving the career you want is within reach, but it does take some clarity, commitment, and confidence. Here are a few steps that will help you develop a successful plan.
Think about your current position. Where are you in your career? Where do you want to be? What do you enjoy about your job?
Consider your goals. What does your dream career look like? What is your passion?
Analyze your skills. Consider both the skills you already confidently possess, and the skills you’ll need to develop in order to reach your goals. Read job postings for roles similar to your goal career if you need ideas. Research upskilling opportunities. Talk to a recruiter about matching your skill set with job opportunities.
Brainstorm your possibilities. Who can you turn to for support? What growth resources can you access? Does your employer offer any career development programs? Are there colleagues that you can network with?
Write an action plan. You know the skills you need to develop and the resources needed for growth—consider both as you prepare to take action. What steps can you take to progress toward your goals? Creating an actionable timeline for your action plan can help you stay on target.
Work toward your goals. Start making progress on your action items. Give yourself dates for the progress you want to make. Try new approaches, make revisions, and seek guidance and support as needed.
Track your milestones. Working toward your goals and building new skills is hard work. Don’t forget to celebrate and document your wins!
So go ahead and ponder about your dream job! It is okay to think about it and plan and then make a move when you are ready! The peoplezest team is here to be your partner and aid you in building a fulfilling career.
